It may sound dramatic, but I am not exaggerating in the least. Were it not for Dr. Meyers, I might be paralyzed or dead.
I had returned from a business trip and was suffering from what I thought were severe muscle spasms in my upper back.I had gone to one of the “doc-in-a-box” urgent care places where they gave me prescriptions for pain and muscle relaxants....but was just not finding any relief.Remembering that Dr. Meyers at Active Health had provided relief from a similar problem in my lower back about nine years ago, I called over to Active Health and they got me right in that day.
Dr. Meyers started a series of treatments ~ massage, stimulation and icing ~ but was concerned that my pain wasn’t lessening after three visits. We hadn’t even considered manipulation because I was in far too much pain. And, even though it can normally take two or three weeks to get spasms to release, Dr. Meyers saw no sign that it was getting any better after those three treatments and suggested we might want to seek medical attention to rule out other possibilities.
That night I ended up in the emergency room because the pain was so great.Again, they medicated me and sent me home.Long story short, the next day I went to see my family doctor and she admitted me directly to the hospital. Blood tests determined that I had a very aggressive infection that was INSIDE my cervical vertebrae. My immune system was compromised, so there was no fever to indicate there even was an infection. My body wasn’t fighting it and the infection had expanded so much it was compressing my spinal cord, causing all the pain I had been experiencing.
I was admitted at 330 and had emergency surgery at 11PM.The neurosurgeon was vigilant, checking on me every 15 minutes, as he was concerned about potential paralysis or even death if the infection progressed.
See?I wasn’t kidding when I said Dr. Meyers saved my life! When other sources of care were willing to take the indicators at face value and simply mask the pain without resolving the core issue, Dr. Meyer was bright enough and trusted her gut instinct that this pain was not “normal” and acted quickly, referring me in the right direction.
I had surgery on my cervical vertebrae June 9th and have no residual neurological defects since, which the neurosurgeon found surprising. While I still have some muscle pain because of the surgical intervention, I am well on my way to recovery. In contrast to the “stereotypical chiropractor” who has patients return as often as possible for as long as possible, Dr. Meyers was diligent and determined to do what was best for me.And that’s the kind of health team I want on my side!

I wanted to take a moment to thank Dr. McConnell for participating in Press Ganey's Wellness week. He did a wonderful job speaking and fielding questions, and many folks have mentioned to me that they found his diet, stretching and strength training hand-outs most useful.
As you know, we previously used to hold a one-day Wellness Fair, but over the past year our company has begin a wellness initiative in the work place from the top down, to include complimentary healthy cooking, yoga and zumba classes, organic fruit for employees, sports leagues, as well as the week-long wellness event that Dr. McConnell participated in.
We had folks call in from our offices across the country ~ from Portland, to our office in Boston ~ to listen to Dr. McConnell. We have received nothing but positive feedback on the lecture. We have employees at many different levels of wellness and Dr. McConnell spoke in a way that the topics were helpful reminders for those already committed to their diet and exercise; and, for those just beginning, it was very informational and easy to understand. I have had several people in our organization ask me for contact information for your office already.
Thank you again for participating in our Wellness Week.

One day at work an email came through to the administrative assistants of the Arts & Letters College at Notre Dame asking if anyone knew of a good chiropractor because the Dean of the College needed one. (The Dean ultimately oversees all employees of the College.) I immediately picked up the phone and called to let them know about "the most wonderful chiropractic office", not wanting him to go anywhere else.
The Dean's assistant said, "Are you sure? I've got 4 others telling me they know the best place too." I said "Well, only if they're all telling you Active Health and Wellness Center."
It turns out that within five minutes of the email request for the best Chiropractic office, five people rushed to let them know to go to Active Health and Wellness. I don't think he could have gotten a better recommendation for a place than that.

Like many “Soccer Moms”, I’m so caught up with caring for my husband and four children, sometimes caring for myself gets overlooked. But luckily, trying to help my 19-year-old daughter ended up helping me … a lot!
Our daughter, Maria, ran competitively in High School and pulled a muscle in her leg; it looked like she might miss a good portion of the season. My husband, a firefighter, heard about Active Health when Dr. Mick made a presentation at the station, and, anxious to help Maria, suggested we try Active Health to get her back to the track sooner through rehab. With their focused efforts and comprehensive treatments, her recovery was far quicker than expected and soon she was running full steam again.
About that same time, I was having difficulty sleeping, troubled by pain in my neck. (You other moms can probably relate to that!) Having never experienced chiropractic care before, I was slightly skeptical --- but hopeful! --- that the treatments would help my pain as much as they had Maria’s. I was surprised at how much each treatment included: time in the massage chair (my favorite!), ultrasonic treatments, deep tissue massage, stretching, the adjustment and exercises for me to do at home to help keep me limber and hold the adjustment longer.
Not only did Active Health relieve my discomfort, their efforts soon allowed me to adjust to a “come-when-you-need-it” schedule after just a few weeks. Unlike horror stories I’d heard of the never-ending appointments with other chiropractors, everybody at Active Health is really focused on getting me well and helping me not come back as often. They always work to get me back up to “Super Mom” speed as quickly as possible. Wow, what a refreshing attitude! (And did I mention that the entire staff is friendly and accommodating? They’re the best!)
So, ladies, here’s the best advice I can give you: You can only care for your family if you take care of yourself. And nobody takes better care of me than Active Health! Aren’t you worth it, too?
Wishing you the best!

Dear Dr. Case,
Thank you for helping me to be active and well for the first time in eighteen years. I’m so grateful for your guidance, treatment plan and follow-up. These have proven invaluable in my every day life.
I was the world’s greatest “chiropractic skeptic” and had no intention of ever stepping foot in any chiropractic office. What changed my mind? Several things… My symptoms sounded like a television commercial. My fingers were numb, I couldn’t tie my shoes because of the stiffness, couldn’t mow my yard without muscle spasms, my limited movement made it impossible to play basketball with my boys, and on and on. However, the one thing that most convinced me to visit your office was the frequent testimonials from people who you had helped. I never once heard anything bad or negative about you or your staff.
I knew I had done the right thing after just one visit to your office. This may sound like hype but it’s the honest truth, I felt better after that first appointment. So much better that I continued treatment and am so glad I did.
Today, I am a different person. I can feel my fingers, tie my shoes, mow my yard and play basketball with my boys. When I start to feel stiffness, aches or pains, I have the discernment to back off or use the tactics you taught me to stretch them out. The changes have been phenomenal.
Please thank your staff for their part. All the doctors are a pleasure to work with. The front and back office staff is great. I never had to wait in the reception area, was always greeted by name and with enthusiasm. Everyone treated the patients and each other in the most professional manner.
I have and will continue to refer everyone to Active Health and Wellness. Every person I have referred to you has said the same thing… “They did more for me in one visit than my other doctor did in six months.” “They know what they’re doing.” “The staff is great.”
Thanks again!!
